Texas Spine Care Can Help with

SPINAL CORD STIMULATION

Spinal cord stimulation is a type of neurostimulation therapy for patients experiencing persistent pain in the neck, back, arms or legs, which delivers mild electrical pulses to the nerves along the spinal column in order to interfere with or block nerve activity and minimize the sensation of pain reaching the brain.

What Is Spinal Cord Stimulation?

Spinal cord stimulation is a minimally invasive procedure used for chronic pain in the neck, back, arms or legs when other surgical and nonsurgical methods are not appropriate treatment options, or for patients who have not found relief from prior surgery attempts.

This neurostimulation therapy works by delivering low-level electrical pulses to specific nerves in the spinal column or portions of the spinal cord to minimize or block pain signals from reaching the brain. By blocking these signals patients experience significant reductions to pain, with most patients reporting a 50% to 70% reduction in pain and symptoms with this treatment.

Is Spinal Cord Stimulation Right For Me?

Spinal cord stimulation offers patients highly effective pain relief of the neck, arms, back, and legs when other surgical procedures and nonoperative methods are not viable options for patients. Spinal cord stimulation can also be an option for patients that have experienced or been diagnosed with failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS).

As with any type of surgical procedure, each patient’s individual case must be evaluated by a physician and should be considered after nonoperative treatments have failed to provide relief, such as physical therapy, medications, or spinal injections.

Am I a Candidate for Spinal Cord Stimulation?

Candidates for spinal cord stimulation can be patients suffering from spine conditions that cause pain affecting a wide range of areas of the body, including the neck, back, arms and legs, or after surgical attempts to resolve this pain.

This unique approach to pain management makes it important for Dr. Bruggeman to review each case and medical history to evaluate if spinal cord stimulation is the right option for your spine condition.
