Texas Spine Care Can Help with

FORMINAL STENOSIS

While foraminal stenosis can affect any part of the spine, it most commonly presents in the cervical (neck) region of the spine and usually develops over time or as the result of another spine condition

What Is Forminal Stenosis?

Foraminal stenosis is a form of spinal stenosis that refers to the narrowing of the spinal passageways in the vertebrae that can put pressure or pinch the nerves running through these narrowing passageways.

The pressure on these spinal nerves can result in pain or weakness to different parts of the body. While foraminal stenosis can affect any part of the spine, it most commonly presents in the cervical (neck) region of the spine and usually develops over time or as the result of another spine condition.

How do I know if I have Forminal Stenosis?

The pain from foraminal stenosis is generally triggered by pinched nerves affected by the narrowing spinal passageways and is often localized in one area of the body and connected to specific movements. Pain and discomfort caused by foraminal stenosis can include radiating pain from the affected area, tingling or weakness in the extremities, and muscle spasms.

In more severe cases, foraminal stenosis can be the result of an underlying condition, such as bone spurs, arthritis, joint enlargement and soft tissue inflammation. Patients suffering from pain or discomfort last several week or months should consult Dr. Bruggeman to see if their symptoms could be caused by foraminal stenosis and determine a proper course of treatment for their unique condition.

What is the right treatment for me?

A full consultation and evaluation with Dr. Bruggeman is key to planning your path to pain relief. Conservative pain management measures like physical therapy, medications, massage therapy, or injection therapy may offer temporary relief, but if these measures have failed to provide enough pain relief, minimally invasive surgical options may offer more a long-term solution.

Minimally invasive spinal decompression procedures, such as a discectomy, laminotomy or laminectomy may be the right option to relieve the pressure on the spinal nerves and offer you lasting pain relief. For problems relating to the cervical spine, the DTRAX procedure can also be a treatment to explore with Dr. Bruggeman.
