SI FUSION

SI fusion, also known as sacroiliac joint fusion, is a minimally invasive procedure that restores stabilization to the sacroiliac joint in order to relieve pain.

What Is SI Fusion?

SI fusion is a minimally invasive procedure which fuses together the two bones linked by the SI joint at the base of the spine when the joint has deteriorated or been damaged causing pain. Fusing these bones together stabilizes the damaged joint and aims to relieve pain in the process.

Since SI fusion is a minimally invasive surgery, the recovery time is faster compared the traditional “open” back surgery and the patient should experience pain relief and restored mobility.

Is SI Fusion Right For Me?

If you have experienced pain in the lower back, legs or buttocks and conservative treatments, such as physical therapy, medications, and at least six months of SI joint injections have not provided relief, Dr. Bruggeman can evaluate if a SI fusion is the right option for your specific case.

SI fusions are used for patients who experience symptoms such as dull aching or radiating pain in the lower back, legs or buttocks triggered by a variety of conditions, including degenerative conditions, pregnancy, arthritis or injury. Patients experiencing these symptoms should schedule an evaluation at Texas Spine Care Center to see if SI fusion may be a treatment option.

Am I a Candidate for SI Fusion?

Depending on the cause and severity of your SI joint pain, Dr. Bruggeman will determine if you are a candidate for SI Fusion. Degenerative sacroiliitis or SI joint disruption may be diagnosed and at least six months of conservative care including a home exercise program, physical therapy, and/or injections should be completed before a patient is considered for SI fusion.

A full evaluation and diagnostic testing, including X-ray, MRI or CT scan, will be needed to be performed with Dr. Bruggeman in order for him to determine if you are an ideal candidate for this minimally invasive procedure.
